School!!!

Yesterday, we had orientation at UCSD for our college, Thurgood Marshall. Orientation was a lot of fun and we were able to meet some people and find out about several great opportunities and fun events. It was a little long (8 hours straight), but there was a lot of good information.

A little about our college ... Thurgood Marshall is one of six colleges at UCSD. In each one, you can have any major, but there are different approaches and mission statements for each college. Our mission statement is "The Citizen and The Scholar." Our college's approach is a general one, one of broad knowledge and public service. What this means is that you're expected to take a certain number of upper division GE's outside your major field. Marshall is also great for placing students in volunteer tutoring positions at surrounding schools.

We are super excited for Welcome Week. It starts Sunday the 19th and runs through the following Saturday. There are a lot of fun activities, and a lot of chances to meet faculty, professors, and other students. There is a hypnotist show, an "unolympics" against the other colleges at UCSD, plenty of fairs with free food, and a convocation and welcome dinner.

We also found out that school doesn't start the 20th but the 23rd. I am a little bit disappointed, I have to be honest. Oh well, I know it will come soon enough :)

I am super excited to be here! Already loving life here at UCSD!!
